GENETIC COUNSELOR JOBS
PROMOTE-GC - a paid, part-time Johns Hopkins University research fellowship for Genetic Counselors
PROMOTE-GC (Promoting Genetic Counselors in Independent Research through Advanced Training and Education) is a part-time, paid, personalized, practical, two-year research fellowship designed to build the research capacity of masters-level genetic counselors. Funded by an R25 award from NHGRI to the Johns Hopkins Department of Genetic Medicine, PROMOTE-GC is designed to provide intensive research training through 1) tailored coursework, 2) practical research experiences, and 3) focused mentoring
Up to six genetic counselors will be trained through this program, with applications for the first 2 positions open now
PROMOTE-GC fellows will work primarily on a remote basis with regular visits to the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore campus with timing and duration of the visits flexible. Percent effort is anticipated to be 50% over 2 years but negotiable. Upon completing training, PROMOTE-GC fellows will be equipped to develop and lead genomic medicine or ELSI research and mentor other counselors and students in their own research development. Our website summarizes program eligibility and common questions
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning January 15th, 2025. For consideration for inclusion in the first PROMOTE-GC cohort, complete applications are due February 28th
PROMOTE-GC fellowship directors, Cindy James and Sonja Rasmussen, are board-certified genetic counselors with additional training who now have research-focused careers. We encourage potentially interested genetic counselors to email Cindy James, Sc.M., Ph.D., C.G.C. (cjames7@jhmi.edu) to discuss PROMOTE-GC and alignment with your career goals and interests.
